Special Election
Dear Active PB & PA Member – Unit 156A Chicago Police Sergeants’
In accordance with our By-Laws, Rules of Election Article 8 Section 6, a special election for the office of President of the Police Benevolent & Protective Association (PB & PA) Unit 156A - Chicago Police Sergeants Association is being announced. We urge you to participate in this important election. The following information is for all candidates and those who are eligible to vote in this election.

WHO MAY VOTE IN THIS ELECTION:
Only ACTIVE MEMBERS (defined as current members, holding the rank of Sergeant and current with their dues) may vote in this election. All ballots will be verified against the current PB & PA Unit 156A Membership Roster.
Ballots will be sent to all Active Members, via U.S. Mail, starting on 03 March 2010 with voting instructions and return envelopes. Ballots must be received via U.S. Mail by Sunday 04 April 2010.
Note: Ballots will only be sent if there is a run off between candidates.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
- You must be an Active Chicago Police Sergeant for the previous 12 months and in good standing for the current year. (Any active member of the Association, having paid full membership dues for the current year shall be deemed a member in good standing.)
- Per Art.VIII Sect. 7, you must have attended fifty (50%) of the regular meetings (3) in the 12 months prior to the filing of the nomination petitions. (Verified by the respective Attendance Logs.) The meeting of 21 January 2010 will count towards your attendance.
- Nomination Petitions, for Sergeants fulfilling the above requirements, can be picked up on Monday 01 February through Monday 08 February 2010 at the office of the Chicago Sergeants Assn. located at 1616 W. Pershing Rd. between the hours of 0800 and 1500. Each Sergeant must also sign the “Nomination Roster” indicating their intent to run for office. Any Candidate who is disqualified will be notified (by certified mail) within ten (10) days of notifying the Election Committee of his/her intent to run as a candidate in this election. This notification may be effective at the time he/she makes the request for the nominating petition.
- Those seeking this office will require ten (10%) of the active membership (128) signatures based on the current list of active duty Sergeants.
- All Nomination Petitions must be returned to the PB & PA Unit 156A / CPD UNIT 545, 1616 W. Pershing Road, by 0900 hours on Tuesday 02 March 2010. Please note the change, that Monday was a holiday.
Note: If there is no run off the result will be posted by Thursday 04 March 2010.
TIME LINE FOR ELECTION PROCEEDURE:
- 01 Feb. 2010 Mon.: Nomination Petitions available
- 08 Feb. 2010 (1500hrs): Last day Petitions are available at the C.P.S.A. Office.
- 01 Mar. 2010 (1500hrs): Nomination Petitions completed and returned to the PB & PA Sgt’s Office and turned over to the Election Committee.
- 03 Mar. 2010 Wed: Ballots created and mailed out to the eligible members.
- 04 April 2010 Sun.: Ballots returned per instructions by Sunday 04 April 2010.
- 05 April 2010: Ballots counted at 1000 hours at the Union Office (1616 W. Pershing Rd). Members are invited to witness the counting.
- The results of the election will be published and posted by Wednesday 07 April 2010.
